Multiple monitors, and monitor polling?

We use AWS for our servers and would need to deploy the monitor in each environment to "watch" the appropriate servers. The monitor would then have to accept polling of status to get around the whole zones can't communicate issue.
Can this be done out of the box today, or would it require customization?
BTW: Nice application, especially with the otherEmail plugin from @UnclePhil
