Google Assistant install: googlesamples-assistant-hotword error

When I do the google samples command I get this "[FATAL:audio_input_stream.cc(47)] Input device could not be opened: default"
I have a usb microphone and the speaker is connected to the aux output. I have also tested that my microphone works and my speaker too.any idea?
