Scrolling too fast/slow. Does not match default scrolling speed

Opened this issue · 23 comments

Apparently I've set up scrolling speed differently on my system. Websites using smoothscroll seem to cause scrolling to go too fast. Or at least not the same speed as I've set up my scrolling preferences.

touchpad or mouse wheel?

Mouse wheel. It's a fly-wheel mouse (Logitech Laser mouse with a free-spinning wheel).

Hey, we also have a problem with those momentum mouses. When wheel set to scroll only a certain amount, the page jumps too much.. Is there a way to control that?

Me too. Mouse wheel scrolling is way too fast using Logitech Performance MX mouse.

I just bought an MX Anywhere 2s to test this. I don't see different scrolling speed from default.

Can any of you guys describe this in more detail so I can reproduce?

3 years ago. :) Unfortunately I don't remember the website.

Basically some websites would simply scroll too fast making it nearly impossible to scroll to a certain part of the page. I discovered these websites were using this package. I was using chrome and windows 7.

Over time I've noticed the problem occurred less frequently. So either they stopped using smoothscroll or something else changed.

I'll remember to post back here if I ever run into the issue again.

This is my local newspaper site: https://times-age.co.nz/

It’s using an old release, v1.2.1 in https://times-age.co.nz/wp-content/themes/Divi/js/custom.min.js?ver=3.10.1

I'm using Chrome on Mac and I have found that Safari and Firefox are unaffected. My Logitech Performance MX mouse can be set to "click" and each click on Chrome is about 460px vertical movement compared to Safari and Firefox which move about 90px. i.e. scrolling is 5 times as fast.

Thanks for looking into it.

I'm trying on a Logitech Anywhere 2s. Mac. Chrome. I can't seem to scroll more whether I have Logitech Options Smooth Scrolling enabled or disabled, and whether I'm in stepped scrolling or free spinning mode.

The Performance MX was discontinued and replaced by the MX Master 2S. Sounds like the 2S doesn’t have the same issue. The Performance MX is plagued by button failure so they won’t be around forever…

Hi guys. I face exactly the same problem as it was described by @mikebirch. I'am using Chrome on Mac machine. But my mouse model is Logitech M705.
It looks like these older momentum mouse models from Logitech have some problem with SS in Chrome browser.

I have the same problem also with Mac app.
I have to play with settings in SmoothScroll preferences to achieve better behavior but it isn't still good result.

The Performance MX mouse doesn’t have an option for Smooth Scrolling. I tried the Mac app and had to deselect "Standard wheel direction" and reduce the step from 90 to about 15.

M705 doesn't have this Smooth Scrolling option as well.

I have updated my Logitech Control Center software to the latest version 3.9.8 and it finally works correctly! It looks like this bug was finally fixed on the Logitech side after few years :)

@mikebirch, what is your Logitech Control Center software version?
Maybe in this version was fixed your mouse model as well.

Thanks @mylino. Upgrading Logitech Control Center to 3.9.8 fixed it for me too :-)
