How to use in Ubuntu

Opened this issue · 6 comments

Hi im tryint to install in ubuntu 22.04 but i dont know how...any help would be apreciated.

By the way anyone here knows about virtualization ? I have problems with virtualbox and scarlett in a linux Host.

Thanks in advance

pd: would be nice to have an rpm package for ubuntu also.

You're in the wrong place for help with virtualization.

Ubuntu doesn't use RPMs.

1 - Sorry my first question is a how-to install alsa scarlett gui in ubuntu machine, I tried to follow the steps, but i didnt get it.

2 -i have mistaken rpm with .deb... .would be nice to have a release for ubuntu 20.04 or 22.04 as is widely used and almost an standard.
3- virtualization: just asking if someone here has some experience or knowledege.

Thanks

22.04 LTS is currently running gnome 42, the application will probably run fine. To install the binary you have to convert the RPM to a DEB file, the alien package can do this for you. More info about this topic here https://fedingo.com/how-to-convert-rpm-to-deb-files-in-linux/

Good luck

Hi @ejgutierrez74

  1. I have just now installed Ubuntu 22.04 to see if alsa-scarlett-gui works on it, and it works fine. I've updated USAGE.md with the non-obvious Ubuntu packages that I found needed to be installed.

Please check and let me know here if you encounter any issues.

  1. I don't know how to create DEB packages sorry. This software won't work on Ubuntu 20.04 in any case because that version is too old and doesn't include GTK4.

  2. Scott is right; you won't find any help for virtualbox here. Personally I use KVM (through Fedora virt-manager) and successfully use my Scarlett interfaces on Linux and Windows for testing & development. Please try a virtualbox forum for assistance with virtualbox.

Regards,
Geoffrey.

Thanks and sorry for the delay in answering.
I test @geoffreybennett in my ubuntu 22.04 and seems to work. Perhaps would be easier to launch in the release a rpm package also for ubuntu and debian based distros.

I know this is not a virtualbox forum, but they told me that perhaps could be a drivers problem. So just asing if someone has knowledge about virtualization.

Im really expecting new versions would be released.

By the way you have to use Focusrite with Alsa, you cant use pulse audio or OSS ??

Hi there,

Why not using Github Actions to build the package ?
I just made a PR #23 for this, feel free to review and comment it.

Alternatively I made another external repository to pack the app, if the PR is rejected:
https://github.com/gwilherm/alsa-scarlett-gui-debian-package/releases

Bonus: The documentation is converted to HTML before packaging.
