Would you consider publishing this library on pypi.org? Doing so would make it easier to install in an automated fashion, such as with Chef, with:
pip install Splunk-Class-httpevent
Instead of
pip install git+git://github.com/georgestarcher/Splunk-Class-httpevent.git
Also, would it be possible for you to tag your repo so that we could at least reference a git tag to pin to a version?

It took me a bit, but I figured out that it is on pypi as Splunk-HEC. Would this be something you could add to your README?
