I have just downloaded the beta and all I get is a window with a blue background. What do I have to download/ do to make it do something or is this just to show that you can make a .exe file.

The POC build wasn't a beta, not anywhere close. The main purpose of it was to showcase proper loading of the flash blobs, AFAIK.
