Set this in your IDE?

@subhrajlahiri like @Tom-DK has suggested, use your IDE to set project specific env which is isolated and easily manageable.

Visual Studio Code:

use .vscode/launch.json file to add your env

Reference:
https://code.visualstudio.com/docs/java/java-debugging

Eclipse :

Use Environment tab under your project's run configuration.

https://examples.javacodegeeks.com/desktop-java/ide/eclipse/eclipse-environment-variable-setup-example/

Global / System Level Env :

If you still want to set environment variables globally, I think you should set it through "Edit the system environment variables" or "Edit the account environment variables" option for windows.
