Obsolete folder structure?

As I understand it, the current folder structure in this repo is obsolete. The Android Studio style folder structure is app/package name/java/. So why does this repo start with src?
Do you not use Android Studio?

This sample has been deprecated/archived (check README for more information on newer samples related to this technology).
As recommended by GitHub, we are closing all issues and pull requests.
