How should I classify Noto Emoji?

Hi, I'm trying to make a fit-all CSS library, which includes half of the Noto fonts, I don't know if I should call Noto Emoji a sans-serif, serif, cursive or a monospace font.

Personally, I classify Noto Emoji as an "emoji font" or even "color emoji font". It's a new category similar I guess to the classic dingbat fonts like Wingdings but I see it as distinct.

@Mwalters75 you should not use Google Sans. If you are using it, please stop.

I suggest using the sans-serif CSS fallback for Noto Emoji, so you get default rendering when it is not available.
