For those interested, I made a binary release with my fixes, Makefile improvements & rebuild. It's a roughly 6.5MB zip file to install to your DOS machine.

Tried it under qemu, stock msdos 6.22, himem is off. Prints:
Could not open bzImage

Found the issue: the bzimage path is hardcoded in ASM

It still hangs when starting dos apps (editor.exe or norton commander). Nice toy ;)

I saw similar issues with real hardware in a HP t5745 (https://sites.google.com/view/lpsantil/home/dos-subsystem-for-linux-on-a-hp-t5745). I'd recommend not considering this stable yet. However, Linux runs great if you run something like dsl sh
