Consider using Disco API to search for JDKs

Opened this issue · 3 comments

The foojay Disco API is a general purpose API to discover builds of OpenJDK from different distributions.
It should allow for automation instead of manually maintaining own metadata.

@sideeffffect asdf-java is using https://joschi.github.io/java-metadata/ to build its inventory.

You know, a data source which didn't spy on its users. 😉

They say they don't do it anymore foojayio/discoapi#20 (comment) 🤷

As mentioned by @sideeffffect we don't store any ip-address for some time but only lookup the country code (as proposed by @joschi) and store it and that's all. So I think that's ok and in the near future you will be able to see the download numbers on foojay.io.
