Just wanted to provide my experience in regards to
The firmware flash process generally requires you to have a charged battery plugged in to the laptop before it will complete.
- It may be possible to bypass the requirement for a charged battery if you unplug the battery completely.
- Alternatively, it might be simply looking for any battery /and/ the power charger plugged in.
For some context, my thinkpad x220 has an x230 motherboard, however I'm using the x220 battery.
It will only flash the EC if it's both plugged into power and a battery is present. However it didn't seem to care that the battery was blacklisted (before flashing it would show the warning on boot).

same, I did a review before as well. Maybe it is time to commit this info to the wiki.
