Investigate and set up Firebase authentication for mobile

We're interested in using Firebase authentication to manage the identity of our users. More specifically, we'll look at what can be done with phone number authentication, and whether the backend is able to use Firebase to verify user authentication based on some tokens that the mobile clients distribute.

Deliverable

• A basic implementation of a backend with access to the Firebase project through Firebase Admin SDK.
• Clients with support for Google Play Services and our Firebase project.
