Can't get semi-transparency

What steps will reproduce the problem?
1. Linux Mint 17.1 Cinnamon

Please provide any additional information below.
In the feature list it mentions:
"Can start without a window border and semi transparent to take up less space
and be less intrusive."
However I can not find any theme or combo of settings that will cause the keys
to display as semi-transparent.

Perhaps the 'semi-transparent' was the wrong term to use. The keys are visible
but the space between and around the keys are (fully) transparent.
