psuedos not working

I cannot get psuedo styles to work with line awesome icons.

I have tried:
&::after { content: "\f0d7"; display: block; font-family: 'Line Awesome Free'; font-weight: 900; position: absolute; right: 0; }

i have seen posts and comments on the website that they should work, but they do not display for me at all.
