I am currently dealing with the same issue in Quick Pad and the only solution seems to be to disable loading files larger then 1 MB.

That seems to affect also Notepads, here's a ticket about the issue 0x7c13/Notepads#10
(as a temporary workaround the app simply doesn't open the file showing a pop-up messaege
