Problem with latin accented characters

What steps will reproduce the problem?
1.Establish encrypted chat with a contact
2.Send a message with latin accented characters like "àèìòù"

What is the expected output? What do you see instead?
I expect my friend will receive the message "àèìòù", but my friend 
received the message "Ã Ã¨Ã¬Ã²Ã¹".

What version of the product are you using? On what operating system?
Me and my friend are using Miranda 0.9.23 and MirOTR 0.11.3 on Windows XP 32 
bit SP3

Please provide any additional information below.
Me and my friend are communicating by EMLANPROTOCOL.
