Can you contact this society and see if they will send us the typed original?

Sure, I will contact them.

Any luck?

I tried all channels I could. But unfortunately, I did not get any response from the person whose contact is given in the site.

@chandrasekharanr I saw your comment in the Ambuda Discord channel. So, I contacted the Sanskrit Education Society - the publisher of this dictionary. The office person said it is not available in digital format. They only have the "film" (if I heard correctly) which they have been using for all the reprints so far.

Thanks for following up @vipranarayan14 , can we get their permission to digitize it?

We might be able to. The editor/compiler - SVR Sastri - is no more. We have to talk to the Society. I don't know what kinds of permissions are needed. If you know Tamil, you can talk to them directly. I can share their contact details with you privately (email/discord).

@vvasuki, what kind of permission do we need if we go the OCR route to digitize the dictionary?

I don't think they care - just go ahead and do it.

If you have infra to do OCR, then https://www.tamildigitallibrary.in/admin/assets/book/TVA_BOK_0012545_Sanskrit_Tamil_dictionary.pdf would be the first choice, as copyright has been expired already.

This dictionary is not as good as the dictionary by SV Radhakrishna Shastri. The copyright for that dictionary has also expired (IMO).
