Custom fields, option to include in search criteria

Scenario:
We have many clients who are not adults. We address invoices using the parent/guardian as the contact. I have created an additional field in the Client Contact called "Student Name". Here we enter the name of the child/minor receiving lessons. We would like to be have this field referenced (in addition) throughout the app when doing a search that references clients.
