Dataset Title

Zooplankton 2015-2023 Dataset

Describe your dataset and any specific challenges or blockers you have or anticipate.

This dataset is a time series showing concentrations of Copepods, Amphipods, Decapods, Euphausiids along the straight of Georgia from 2015 to 2023. I anticipate re-formatting the data to Darwin Core will be challenging although I have not yet begun to work on it.

Info about "raw" Data Files.

Hi @psalinasruiz . Great to learn about this Strait of Georgia zooplankton dataset! I am currently working on aligning a similar dataset on the other side of the border in the Salish Sea, in Puget Sound and parts of the Strait of Juan de Fuca. And as it turns out, event the time frame is similar, 2014 - 2022. This dataset is from the Puget Sound Zooplankton Monitoring Program (PSZMP; here's a recent article about the program). We recently published on OBIS a similar but earlier and smaller zooplankton dataset, in Hood Canal (also in Puget Sound), and the work on the PSZMP dataset builds on what we did for that previous dataset. Both of these datasets came from big "horizontal" tables -- one a CSV, the other one an Excel file.

I'd be happy to describe what we've done. And if you plan to use Python for your work, feel free to take a look at the code I developed for the earlier dataset. I'm currently adapting that code for the PSZMP data and will create a GitHub repo for it in the next couple of weeks.

For the Hood Canal dataset, including code and documentation (but I still need to cleanup some of the documentation in the GitHub dataset repo!), see here; the dataset as published on OBIS is here.

It'll be fantastic to ultimately see on OBIS both the PSZMP data and your dataset!

Thank you for identifying this dataset for mobilization. The workshop hosts wanted to check in. Is there anything you need help with in order to mobilize this dataset to OBIS? If you would like assistance from an OBIS node you can find node contacts listed here.
