I have no idea what caused this. It simply suddenly stopped working and looks like this now:

Check that VLC plugin is activated.

If I set it to 'always active' it works but I don't want other sites to be allowed to run it without asking me first. If I set it to 'ask to activate' it doesn't work and doesn't ask me to activate it. I used 'ask to activate' for months now and it asked to run on YouTube on the first try and then worked - till now. I have no idea why it broke, nothing significant changed in my browser.

There should be a 'lego icon' or whatever on the left side of the url bar probably or you can try disabling thumbnail display so that it displays the plugin's "window" and the "click to activate" box.
I'll see if I can get it to display the gray "click to activate" box when thumbnail mode is enabled.

There is and it works, thank you. I thought the icon was about flash (I have flash on always ask and always forbid it, related to #66 ). But it still doesn't make sense what happened - long ago it asked with a pop up and I allowed it and it worked for months, but yesterday the permission was just gone and there was no pop up or any clear message from firefox this time, just that lego icon.
