People keep posting things like <a href="link">link</a> on my website (not spam).
Maybe if there was a preview mode or some way of showing how it would look at the same time the user writes, such mistakes could be avoided.

It’s working as intended. The A element isn’t on the allowed list of HTML elements, so it’s escaped. It says so underneath the comment form. So, you’re commenters know enough HTML to add a link, but not how to read the instructions.
A work around could be to handle links differently. Grab them and put them behind the intended linked text in parenthesis. I assume it’s being shown to avoid link-cloaking and other sneakiness.
