Allow excerpt length to be overridden

If we can set it to something rather high (400-ish chars or so) but still leave some room for a permalink and tags, the "template" thingy could probably replace many a custom callback function. Like, it would probably allow crossposting "notes" in full (and it'd still show most of the notes that happen to be too long).
