The simulation model has been compared with the experimental results. The response in heave is quite accurate, and in pitch, we are able to encompass some of the dynamics. However, the roll response is much smaller and has a different frequency compared to that of the experiments. The simulation roll response has a lower frequency. Even when reducing the roll damping to 10% of the total damping, the response is still too low.
Why do we see this behaviour, and how can we overcome the problem to increase the fidelity of our model?
- Are the frequency-dependent hydrodynamic terms in roll poorly estimated by ShipX?
- Are the force RAOs in roll more difficult to calculate/estimate in ShipX compared to other DOFs?
