Cannot select multiple chunks to delete them

I've spent half an hour trying to find anyone else with this problem: I simply can't click and drag to select multiple items. I can't delete an mca file either. I just want to remove all chunks from a world except about 30 of them.

Have you tried using MCEdit to purge the chunks instead?

I just did that a few minutes ago. It was awkward, because it's a 1.13 world and nothing actually loads in MCedit, but I managed to position the player inside a particular chunk for reference and prune using that.
