The yld files don't have column names instead the column names are built into the structure of the output. Use this structure as columns names, e.g.
Crop Type # 1 Date = 152 OFE # 1 yield= 0.787 (kg/m**2) year= 2007
really has column names crop_type, Date, OFE, yield, and year.

Consider making all column names lower case.

Also units should be a column or an attribute.
