Change home page design?

How can I create a custom home page design? I tried modifying the defaulthome.tpl but the home page didn't change. Any ideas?

Hello @power7714 , i did the changes in Defaulthome.tpl.php and that works for me!
Check in web console if u have an error in some script, or type in terminal tail -f /var/log/apache2/error.log to see if u have an error in the php file...
