Hi，I learned from the Tutorials chapter "Build a Java app with Maven", I've followed the tutorials, but when I run it, I report this error.

Hi again @kent666a ,

Thanks for posting this up - I just wanted to verify that you were using the Pipeline code as it is documented.

To be honest, I'm not sure why you're receiving the error you did. I tested this just now and found no issue (albeit using the patched Docker Workflow plugin mentioned here, which would be required to run these tutorials as documented until this PR is merged and a new version of this plugin is released). Note that to build this patched version of the Docker Workflow plugin, you'll need Maven installed locally.

I was able to replicate the error you received above when I omitted the pipeline { ... } block syntax from my Jenkinsfile in source control (so that all I had were agent { ... } and stages { ... } blocks).

The only other things I could suggest (bearing in mind I'm not 100% sure) which might be causing your issue above are:

  • It's possible that some of your Pipeline-related plugins (accessible through Manage Jenkins > Manage Plugins) might be disabled or uninstalled. If so, re-activate or re-install them.
  • Verify that you installed the suggested plugins (when you installed Jenkins in Docker). If you don't know what these are, try a 'factory reset' of your Docker installation (if you don't have anything else running in Docker that you want to keep) and re-install Jenkins in Docker (as per the instructions in the tutorial).

If you're still stuck for an answer, I'd suggest posting your query up on either the Jenkins Users Google Group or Stackoverflow.

If you do discover the cause of your issue, please feel free to share your findings in a comment on this issue, as I'm sure others experiencing a similar issue will be appreciative.

I do not know how I solved the problem. I installed maven on the system and re-installed jenkins as if it was ok, but I still tried it several times to make it. I'm not sure why. For docker I am also a novice, thank you for taking the time to reply to my question, not the problem you wrote the tutorial, but I am not familiar with docker, I am sorry to waste a lot of your time.

Perhaps my reason for poor English, did not understand well. I'm very sorry.

No worries - from what you indicate above, this issue is now resolved for you, so I'll close it.

If you're unfamiliar with Docker, I suggest you have a look at the Docker section of the Installing Jenkins page of the Jenkins User Documentation. This section contains several links to key pages in the Docker documentation which should provide you with a lot of good background material about Docker.

Hi, do you have idea on what are the necessary plugins needed? I have tried to install a bunch of plugins related to pipeline and agent, but it is still giving me this error.
