There are a lot of open issues here which don't even get an acknowledgement. I'm thinking this package is abandoned. Am I correct?

It is occasionally maintained. But you are right that it deserves more attention than it gets. I don't personally get to use go often anymore and do not get to make go-flags a priority unfortunately. The package is quite stable and I do check in from time to time.
