Synctex potentially causes trouble in Emacs/luatex+Evince or Zathura setting under Ubuntu 18.04

A while ago I have posted this problem on SX. Recently, I found that related bug report, because the problem still renders my strongly preferred tool setting still impractical in certain cases.
Summary of the problem: Evince or zathura (I've tried with both) keep crashing (a) when the PDF viewer refreshes after building Latex documents (I am using luatex with emacs) or (b) after clicking the PDF output in these viewers to get to the corresponding position in the latex document (open in an emacs buffer). The problem can comparatively easily be triggered with long (50-60+ pages) documents.
I hope the details in the linked bug reports are informative for the time being. Thank you for checking whether synctex plays the conjectured role here.
