Multi page example mentions separate HTML documents

On http://demos.jquerymobile.com/1.4.5/pages/ the section Multi-page template structure shows separate divs for each page. However it says
the ids on the page wrappers are only needed to support the internal page linking,
and are optional if each page is a separate HTML document
How can the divs be documents?
