Profiles are not syncing (mobile vs web)

I signed up for Maven using my phone number. (On the app). I just signed in using the web interface, but it looks like Maven created a new account for me. Maybe it is because I added +1 (1 without the plus sign though) to the phone number?

Separately, I have noticed that Maven creates multiple instances for the same 'Topic'. For example: 'Artificial Intelligence' and 'Artificial intelligence' appear to be two different interests to follow. When the only difference is the upper/lower case for one of the letters in the word or words. Maybe this is a separate issue?
