I just came across this nifty GitHub action from the Calibre team:

https://github.com/calibreapp/image-actions

It allows you to automatically minify images to a repository and merge them into a PR.

Could be a nice lightweight solution to keeping our performance up

I have been a long time user of ImgBot - both the desktop tool and the GH app https://github.com/marketplace/imgbot/plan/MLP_kgDNGw8#pricing-and-setup and it works really well.
