Help with Borders Around Ligatures

In some systems - particularly Manjaro Linux powerline-go seems to have borders around ligatures.

I'm attaching a screenshot:

Notice the thin blue and red borders where the arrows end.

I don't seem to have the same issue in Windows and Arch Linux. Any pointers on why this could be happening and what can be done to fix this?

Reproduces at least on Ubuntu 20.04 too. I'd be interested to hear about a fix/workaround as well.
