hi, is there a reference to how basic languages used this?
do you mean that this is threaded-code?

No, I think the BASIC language: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/BASIC had some ideas that were very similar. Now I don't recall any references that talk about this.

I think you mean Bill Gates' optimizations to Altair BASIC and yes they were very similar to what is proposed here.
