Before creating an issue, make sure you've checked the following:
- You are running the latest released version of k0s
- Make sure you've searched for existing issues, both open and closed
- Make sure you've searched for PRs too, a fix might've been merged already
- You're looking at docs for the released version, "main" branch docs are usually ahead of released versions.

What happened?
After completing the installation of the cluster, I have the following log.
INFO k0s cluster version v1.27.6+k0s.0 is now installed
INFO Tip: To access the cluster you can now fetch the admin kubeconfig using:
INFO k0sctl kubeconfig
However, running k0sctl kubeconfig
gives the below response.
time="31 Mar 24 14:10 +06" level=fatal msg="failed to locate configuration"
Steps to reproduce
- Create cluster
- Run
k0sctl kubeconfig
Expected behavior
Should be able to get the Kubeconfig.
Actual behavior
time="31 Mar 24 14:10 +06" level=fatal msg="failed to locate configuration"
Screenshots and logs
Having kubeconfig
prerequisite for running kubectl
Additional context
No response
The message "failed to locate configuration" indicates that k0sctl was unable to find the configuration file. Is it possible that k0sctl.yaml
was deleted or that k0sctl was executed from another directory? Without the configuration, k0sctl cannot know which cluster to retrieve the configuration for.
Maybe the tip should include any --config
directive that was used for the apply.

Was running into the same issue, this did the trick for me atleast.
You can also use --kubeconfig-out
in k0sctl apply
to fetch it once the apply is complete.
