Videos always get stuck starting the stream

I just installed the plugin on a fresh plex install on a fresh snow leopard install on a 2008 macbook pro. The navigation works perfectly, and I can find videos easily and both browsing and searching seem to work well. However, whenever I attempt to start a stream, it spins indefinitely.
I can stream from amazon without issue.
