I think every signup should get 1 vote by default. But you can only vote once , until you accumulate x number of votes that will give you unlimited voting capacity ?

Otherwise no one would accumulate x number of votes , unless you give them the counter in the first place on some other grounds.

So I think a problem with that is that a group of 5 people could get together and use their one vote all on a single person. Then that person would get unlimited upvotes and upvote the rest of them.

I'm not worried about most reasonable people doing this kind of thing. It's the spammy people who will eventually find the site.
