Recordings wont play in any browser

This bug seems to repeatedly come and go across releases and I'm not sure what's going on, but the error message doesn't really point in any helpful direction and there's no logs.
In Firefox, the error displayed in the browser is:
No video with supported format and MIME type found
In Safari on macOS/iOS/iPadOS, there isn't any error, but the video player never starts playing the video.
I tried resetting/repairing the permissions on the config/recordings folders but that didn't make a difference.
Possible regression in the vein of #57 or maybe #120? It should honestly just work.
