Both EDID and xrandr guides do not work

I tried both the xrandr and EDID guides and they result in xrandr showing the custom refresh rate (65hz) but glxgears still says 60fps (instead of 65fps) when vsynced.

Games such as neverball are also 60fps when vsynced even though the monitor is at 65hz.
