Is G-engine compatible with SWAT 3 ?

Based on some old articles I have figured out, that SWAT 3 was based on GK engine, so the question is - how similar they are?

Hi - someone else actually reached out to me about this via email some time ago. I didn't know much about it, but this is what I discovered:

An engineer named Jim Napier was responsible for early development of G-Engine for GK3. However, Jim did not stay on GK3 for very long - after the basic engine for GK3 was functional, he was reassigned to work on SWAT 3.

Based on that sequence of events, it seems likely that the SWAT engine is based on GK3 engine to some degree. I believe the two engines probably diverged pretty early in development, but I bet Jim would have used what he already did for G-Engine to start SWAT 3’s engine, rather than starting from scratch.

Both projects actually have interesting postmortems written by their respective lead engineers - definitely worth a read:

So ultimately, I bet there are similarities, but I do not think G-Engine is compatible with SWAT 3.

@kromenak Thank you so much, the articles are really good !
P.S. offtopic: Is there a chance you know of some SWAT3 R.E. project ?

No sorry - haven't heard of any SWAT 3 projects.
