Here are the steps I followed on Mac OS Mojave (Version 10.14.3):
Python environment: Anaconda3

  1. Cloned the rl-starter-files repository
  2. cd rl-starter-files
  3. conda install pytorch
  4. pip3 install -r requirements.txt
  5. python3 -m scripts.train.py --algo ppo --env MiniGrid-DoorKey-5x5-v0 --model DoorKey --save-interval 10 --frames 80000

It worked correctly only one time out of approximately 20 times that I tried running it.

I realized that my terminal was using system python3 not the conda python3. Using the conda python3 solved the issue.
