Error log format lacks timestamps

Errors lack timestamps, and stdout logs are someone inconvenient to read. It would be nice if the log file format was consistent and a single log with a nice format (perhaps with [DATETIME] [SEVERITY] [COMPONENT] Log message here or some variant).
