unable to update, well stuck on "sudo apt-get install -y gnumeric" connection fail tried installing separately and tried "sudo apt-get install libgtk-3-dev zlibc zlib1g zlib1g-dev intltool" but gets stuck on verification.

Sounds like you have repo issues. What version of kali are you using?
