IP address is assigned but unable to connect to internet.

When connecting via Wifi / ethernet, I can see that the board is being assigned an IP address. I am able to arping the gateway too.

Tried adding gateway as

root@hikey:/ # ip ro ad default via 10.42.0.1 dev wlan0                        
root@hikey:/ # route

default         10.42.0.1       0.0.0.0         UG    0      0        0 wlan0

connect: Network is unreachable

still not able to ping the gateway ip.
Any idea what might be wrong?
