BUG: tests fail on RHEL-7

The testsuite fails on RHEL7, likely due to changes between RHEL7 and upstream. Older RHEL releases are likely also affected.

Many of these failures were likely due to problems fixed in commits 444f5ce and 9008525.

As RHEL-7 is an "Enterprise" distro, I'll leave it up to the RH folks to decide if this is still an issue; closing for now.
