No discoverable way to stop blinking cursor in Xed

Issue

There doesn't seem to be any way to stop the blinking cursor in Xed. These cursors can hurt, and blur everything around them, and trigger my migraines.

Steps to reproduce

Start Linux Mint. Disable Effects. Log out. Log in. Open a file in Xed. It will have a blinking cursor, despite disabling effects. Open Edit > Preferences. It will not have an option to stop the cursor.

Expected behaviour

Either disabling Effects, or switching one of Xed's Preferences, or both, should stop this cursor.

This appears to be a pervasive Linux Mint bug, nit a Xed-specific bug.
