displaying month on the day wheel

Not really a problem more of a suggestion question:
I want to use the date scroller to set date in just last few days so there is
no point in having a month and year wheel however I would like to be able to
set the day wheel to include the month eg 'Thursday 17.1'. Is it possible or
should I write a custom component?
