User Deb Neher noticed when searching for plant diseases and associated literature, that there are plenty of synonyms that may not be reflected by the literature search. Scientists use Latin names for pathogens (e.g., Rhizoctonia solani) but a farmer would use a common name for a disease (e.g., bottom rot) in relationship to a particular crop (e.g., lettuce). The common name might vary depending on the crop.
Describe the solution you'd like
The American Phytopathology Society publishes many books and educational materials but Deb can’t think of any comprehensive list for all crops, pathogens and diseases. A set of resources that she finds useful both from a scientist and advisory perspective is there series of compendia (http://my.apsnet.org/APSStore/Category?Category=Compendium). Each focuses on a particular crop and reviews all the diseases known for that crop. they are now offering digital options but they are not ‘free’.
An alternative would be to search for Extension Service Bulletins and Fact Sheets. These should be publically available, e.g., https://ag.umass.edu/vegetable/fact-sheets/carrot-parsnip-rhizoctonia-crown-root-rot
