rumor is that these are not propertly detected. need to take a closer look.

rumor seems to be false, detected as spherical merc out of the box. tests added, closing.

Ah ha: it appears the 4326 shapefiles are providing a mercator .prj, so maybe that was the source of the original rumor. Issue tracking this created at osmcode/osmcoastline#7.
